l had two gerbils, they were from the same litter and are now approx 2 years old. Last night, one of them died and I've heard that in these cases the gerbil that is left can die soon after from loneliness - is this true?! l know l can not introduce a new gerbil as the older one will attack it, but what can l do to keep my gerbil from getting lonely? (l work full time, so can only play with her during the evening!)
one of my gerbils past away after one year and the one thats alive is fine but you can get a other one but you will need 2 cages so they can seem and get used to each other theis can take a week to a mouth hope all goes well
Your gerbil will be fine, its to late to introduce another new gerbil now, and he will not die
Just make sure there is plenty for him/her to do like digging in sand and tunnels to run in
Who ever you put in now will fight so do not worry as long as you spend some time with him/her will be OK
Its always sad to lose a pet keep your chin up and concentrate on your little mate x
This has happened to me before.
As long as the cage is a good one (ie big, if possible a tank one so the gerbil can dig lots) and there are things to play with, and you handle regularly, it should be fine.
My gerbil lived about 18 months after the brother died. And they're usually nocturnal, so wo not even notice you're gone in the day. In the evening is fine.
leave the other gerbil in there dead but the one alive will think that its alive and will not get lonely, even tho the dead one will just stay there doing nothing
try to get him a friend. if it does not work, then i guess you just have to leave him by himself. not much you can do.
