l plead ignorance for any animal lovers out there because they seem like very similar animals to me, one is simply larger than the other. What would make a better pet?

What are the differences between gerbils and hamsters

wow, then ur really have not looked at them if ur think size is th only difference.

hamsters r a little bigger (depending on what kind u r looking at). they usually r pretty furry & have a very short tail that u can not really see unless u pick them up.

gerbils look alot more like mice/rats. they r bigger than mice, but smaller than rats, & they have hair on their tails.

i personally would suggest gerbils.

hamsters have a tendency to be aggressive, protective, & bite (HARD). hamsters r solitary animals, so if u get one, get only one or they will fight & injure each other.

gerbils on the other hand r very social animals, they can live in groups, but make sure they r all the same gender, u do not want babies u can not care for. they also r much less smelly, since they r desert animals they urinate minimally so their cage does not stink up quickly like hamsters do. u would only need to clean the cage about every week & 1/2 where as with the hamster you'd be better off cleaning prolly every 3-4 days. the only bad thing about gerbils is they sometimes r prone to having seizures from loud noises, but they can live a happy healthy life in a calm quiet environment.
